In an effort to get their volunteer schedule filled, The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign has designed special theme days for volunteers. The time to sign up for theme days is now through September 19th.

Following are the themes for 2016:

November 15: Break the Bank Day

Area banks and credit unions take to the stands to help us get a jump start on the season.

November 16: Veteran’s

We invite US Veterans (either individuals or groups) to show their patriotic pride while ringing bells and helping us to Do the Most Good

November 17: Church Day

Area churches of all faiths and denominations are invited to join us ringing bells this day.  It is through working together that we can make things happen in our community.

November 18: Western Technical College Day (must sign up through WTC)

Western students staff and faculty will fill the sites this day.  To participate in Western Technical College Day contact Kari Reyburn, Community Engagement Coordinator at 608-784-4798 or

November 19: Viterbo Day (Tentative)

Viterbo students, staff and faculty are invited to wear their gear and help us ring bells on November 21st.

November 21: Band Day

Are you a member of a band?  Would your band like to play at a kettle site to help us raise funds?  All the statistics show that music at the kettle sites increases generosity.

November 22: Civic Organization Day

We would love to see all our kettle sites filled up with a variety of civic organizations showing their organization pride this day and helping us Doing the Most Good!

November 23: Sports Day

Does your sports team want to show up this day and help ring bells? We encourage individuals to wear their team uniform and share lots of team spirit!

November 25: Black Friday

This is the busiest shopping day of the year and we need your help in staffing it.  There is so much potential to raise dollars on this day.  It is vital that we fill the day with effervescent volunteers who are capable of spreading lots of Christmas cheer on our behalf!

November 26: Family Day

We have dubbed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Family Day!  We are inviting families to ring bells together on this day!  To make the activity more kid friendly, shifts are only one hour on this day!  We find that the cuteness factor that kids bring to the kettles also increase generosity, but sometimes two hours it a little too much for some little ones, so Family Day shifts are only one hour long.  Keep in mind you can take more than one shift, if you prefer the more traditional two hour shifts.

December 10: UW-L Day (must sign up through UW-L)

UW-L day has been going on for quite some time and continues to be one of our most successful days.  Student Groups can join in on UW-L Day by connecting with Maggie Faulds, from the UW-L Habitat Chapter.  Or individuals who want to participate can contact The Salvation Army.

December 16: Choir Day

Are you a member of a choir?  Would your choir like to play at a kettle site to help us raise funds?  All the statistics show that music at the kettle sites increases generosity.

If you would like to participate in a theme day, please contact Heather at608-782-6126 extension 226 or email at
